Profile
Dr Steiner graduated with Honours from Monash University in 2010 and completed a Graduate Diploma in Surgical Anatomy at the University of Melbourne. He subsequently relocated to Sydney to undertake formal orthopaedic training, during which he completed a Mastor of Traumatology at the University of Newcastle, specialising in orthopaedics.
Following completion of his orthopaedic training, Dr Steiner undertook a Fellowship in Spine Surgery at Royal North Shore Hospital, where he gained extensive experience in elective spinal surgery and the management of complex spinal trauma. He then completed an advanced spine fellowship at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital in London, UK. During this time, he further developed expertise in minimally invasive spine surgery and aquired signficant experience in the multidisciplinary management of spinal tumours and metastic spinal disease.
Dr Steiner is actively involved in regsitrar education and currently serves as a reviewer for the Colloborating Hospitals Audit of Surgical Mortality through the NSW Clinical Excellence Commision.
His clinical interests include spinal tumour surgery, degenerative and deformity spine surgery and spinal trauma. Dr Steiner treats a broad range of conditions inclduing disc herniation, sciatica, spinal stenosis, myelopathy, scoliosis, kyphosis, spinal fractures, traumatic nerve compression, and both primary and metastic spinal tumours.
Research
Dr Steiner's research interests focus on spinal trauma, spinal tumours and degenerative spine conditions. He has a particular interest in outcomes based research and the optimisation of surgical techniques, including minimally invasive approaches. He is also interested in quality and safety in spine surgery, surgical education and the evaluation of clinical outcomes to improve patient care. Dr Steiner contributes to the Australian Spine Registry by providing de-identified data to inform best practice and improve outcomes across spine care.
