Research
Dr Madhuri Jain's research interests centre on neurodevelopmental and behavioural paediatrics, health systems improvement, and equity in child and adolescent health. She has a particular focus on ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, and learning difficulties, with emphasis on the interface between medical, psychosocial, and educational determinants of child wellbeing.
Her scholarly work includes co-authoring the 2025 viewpoint article Medicalisation of Social Distress in Childhood: What Paediatricians and Child Health Professionals Can Do, published in BMJ Open, which examines trauma-informed and strengths-based approaches in paediatric practice. Her earlier research explored neonatal outcomes, including publications on the clinical and diagnostic profile of neonates with sepsis (PEDICON 2010) and infant feeding practices comparing working and non-working mothers (PEDICON 2012).
Dr Jain is also actively engaged in quality improvement and implementation science, including ADHD shared-care models with primary care, criteria-led discharge frameworks, and service redesign to improve access for vulnerable populations. Through leadership roles within Central Coast Local Health District and Sydney Children's Hospitals Network, she contributes to multidisciplinary research, policy development, and initiatives aimed at reducing health inequities for culturally diverse, Indigenous, and marginalised youth.
